MENDOCINO ITALIANATE RESTORATION

MENDOCINO, CA

2025

When my client invited Atelier Julienne to reimagine her historic Mendocino home, I discovered its remarkable past as the 1878 Maxwell-Jarvis House, a beloved Italianate landmark on Banker’s Row. Over the years, fire damage and unsympathetic remodels had stripped away much of its original character. Together, we set out to restore its architectural spirit while tailoring the design for contemporary living.

Every space reflects this balance: rich millwork and grand proportions ground the home in history, while ocean-inspired hues, playful wallpapers, and serene bedroom palettes bring comfort and personality. From the soft green dining room wrapped in a floral mural to the dusky blue kitchen echoing nearby waves, each detail honors both the home’s legacy and my client’s lifestyle.

Today, the Maxwell-Jarvis House stands renewed — a bright, welcoming coastal residence that celebrates resilience, beauty, and the enduring charm of Mendocino.
